Master's Difficulty Chart Obby (or MDCO) is an early and pioneering Difficulty Chart Obby created and released by Master Obbies Verified in early 2021.

Despite frequent criticisms and a 51% rating on Roblox, the game is still considered one of the best early DCOs of the trend and its time.

MDCO still gets updated regularly, with new monthly obbies and challenges for new and experienced players to enjoy, although with less consistency, causing confusion with some players.[2]

Monthly Obbies

Master's Difficulty Chart Obby releases new monthly obbies (also called monthly challenges) each month. For the most part, they've continued this trend since the initial release of the first monthly obby in 2021. The release of these monthly obbies, along with experimental obbies and additional monthly pro obbies, is why MDCO has kept its relevance for so long. The monthly obbies section can be found to the right of the main spawn-point (checkpoint 0) in the lobby.

Players receive rewards for completing a monthly obby either once or a certain amount of times. These rewards can be something such as trails, halos, or some other type of cosmetic. Some of these cosmetics can be used across all of Master Obbies' games. While called exclusives, trails and other cosmetics are frequently re-used in monthly obbies.

Coils, such as the Gravity Coil and Fusion Coil, cannot be used when playing a monthly obby.

Players can compete on leaderboard each month. The players with the most completions of any given monthly obby are placed on the leaderboard, up to the top 100 of them.

Another form of monthly obbies in Master's Difficulty Chart Obby are monthly pro challenges, or monthly pro obbies. These are essentially the same as monthly obbies, but come in later during the month and contain only hard difficulties. Upon completing the pro forms of the monthly obby, players can receive Challenge Points, which can be used as progress to reach their next challenge rebirth, a process of which that grants 3 Master Points.

  • Stage 17 of this monthly obby (medium) was partially broken, leading to a difficulty above the expected Medium range. This was because the jump pads were poorly configured.

The Experimental Zone

The Experimental Zone, also known as the Experimental Drop-Zone, is a section of the lobby featuring Master Obbies' experimental and hardest obbies. Sometimes, they are unsure if they are even widely possible or do-able by the general public, including enthusiasts, so they send them here for every to try out.

Each drop contains 3 stages in all black and of varying difficulty, but they all skew towards being very difficult.

Currently, 12 drops have been released through the zone.

Design

Master's Difficulty Chart Obby was the start of Master Obbies' design system. It is simple at its core, consisting largely of two-tones depending on whichever difficulty is set as the current theme. The primary tone is at the inner section of any part, with the secondary tone being used as an outline. For most of the obby this is present, but in some regions, especially ones recently created, neon/glowing parts are used as outlines and highlights to increase visual clarity in the gameplay.

Additional Areas

Separate to the main difficulty chart obby, the monthly and pro monthly challenge obbies, and the experimental drops zone, is one medium-sized area. This area is to the left of the main area of the lobby and before the experimental zone. This are houses the practice zone as well as the credits.

The practice zone features two adjustable mechanics. A wrap-around adjuster, and a stick-out adjuster. Players can set their own width of either a stick-out of a wrap-around and practice it. There are kill-bricks under each adjuster, so falling/failing will teleport you back to the front of the practice section.

The credits part features a large sign saying "The DCO Masters," with MDCO developers @bluirre, @obama_ismymum68, @milanomaster, @POTato12623, and @MasterDaniel.

The full area reads:

  • bluirre - Stage Builder - "blueberry"
  • obama_ismymum68 - Stage Builder - "thinks every stage is easy"
  • milanomaster - Stage Builder - "The complex mind"
  • PoTato12623 - Stage Builder - "MasterDaniel circa 2021: 'Ugliest avatar.'"
  • MasterDaniel - Scripter - "actually not very good at obbies"

Master Points

Trivia

  • MDCO uses a different way to display player's stages. As with most difficulty chart obbies, the total stage a player has reached is displayed on the players list, however, MDCO uses the player's current stage, including if they are in a monthly or challenge obby, or even the lobby.
  • The price to skip a stage starts at 29 Robux, but raises as the game progresses and gets harder.
  • With-in the in-game credits area, a text label is above MasterDaniel's (the founder of Master Obbies and creator of Master's Difficulty Chart Obby) head which says that he is "actually not very good at obbies."
  • A large difficulty chart bar is shown at the bottom of players screen depending on which course they are in, showing every player in the server and their positions along the chart.
  • The game on its Roblox page has a large amount of dislikes due to its difficulty, its age, and the fact it offers no incentive to like, leaving most of the player-base who enjoyed the game to forget to leave a like, and resulting in a larger portion of dislikes.
  • You can press R to reset back to your current checkpoint at any point during the obby or any monthly obby, including the lobby and other areas.
